Fred Lewis Schierloh, 72, passed on Monday, October 10, 2016. Fred was born on October 6, 1944 in Belle, Missouri to August and Buelah Schierloh, who have preceded him in death.

Fred will be deeply missed by his long time partner, Janice Collins, his daughter Elisabeth (Neil) Weghorst, his son Richard Schierloh (Suzanna), and grandchildren Logan, Caden and Alex. He also leaves his sister, Sandra Eckert-Stewart, of Lake Winnebago, Missouri and brother, John (Jeanne) of Grand Rapids, Michigan – as well as many nieces and nephcews.

Fred received his undergraduate education at the Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri, and an advanced degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. This education prepared him for a successful career as an Engineer, and in related positions, with General Motors, Cosa Corporation, and the University of Toledo.

Fred tenaciously fought multiple myeloma for the past eight years. During this time, he was successful in maintaining his quality of life and in providing love and support to those around him. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his kind heart, his business acumen and his sharp, analytical mind.

Fred had a fondness for nature and environmental conservation, and demonstrated his passion by supporting the wildlife on his property in Ionia, Michigan. He was an avid glider pilot and member of the Adrian Soaring Club, where he enjoyed both flying and the camaraderie of good friends.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2016, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. A short memorial service is set for 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited, the Liberty Cemetery in Belle, or a charity of your choice. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
